Spring Workshops
Throughout May and June,, Jeff will hold Pastel and Oil Workshops twice a week. In addition, Open forum sessions will be available to anyone on Saturday afternoons twice a month. Each class will have a limited capacity to six students, so be sure to reserve a space in advance by completing a form.
Come to Jeff's studio from 1:00 to 5:00 and work freely on whatever you'd like - your own painting or a still life set up in the studio. Or, extend your morning workshop into the afternoon for more practice time. Jeff will be present to answer questions and give tips. Space is limited to 6, so be sure to register in advance.

During this 3 hour morning session, we will familiarize ourselves with different brands of papers and pastels. We will learn how to use fixatives and cover safe practices. We will explore value, tones and composition and work to understand form, shadows and reflected light. You will leave this class having created 2 color renderings. For those who have worked with pastels and understand the basics of drawing, this workshop is an intermediate to advanced level class. 3 hours will be spend exploring, experimenting and practicing working with pastels. We'll learn different techniques in layering and starting an under painting. Then we will explore working with perspectives and creating dynamic compositions that bring out mood and drama. Designed for beginning to intermediate levels, this session will focus on understanding the basics of working with oils. The 4 hour session will give thorough instruction, demonstration and practice in understanding how to work with the oil medium, working with different materials (thinners, dryers, brushes, solvents), creating the color wheel and designing your palette as well as working with tones, values and the color wheel. You will create your composition and learn how to design the canvas. On Saturdays, you can stay through the afternoon and continue working in an Open Forum session. For those who have worked with oils and understand the basics of drawing and painting, this session is an intermediate to advanced level class. Time will be spent exploring, experimenting and practicing working with oils more in-depth. Particular attention will be focused on experimenting with tones, values, color and shapes, working with perspectives, creating compositions and bringing out mood and drama.
